We came across Coaty's Instagram late 2016 and wanted to know a little more about what keeps him motivated and what's essential in his day-to-day skin routine.
Tell us a bit about yourself
So a little about myself.. Where do I start. I’m an aspiring technology enthusiast, I’ve always had a passion for it for as long as I can remember. I was lucky that I was able to make a career out of my passion. More recently in my life, personal fitness has become a passion of mine as well. I enjoy being able to empower people to empower themselves, information is a powerful thing! I would describe myself as fun-loving, driven individual who strives to accomplish anything he puts his mind to.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me starts at 5:15 am. I usually head to the gym and do 20 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of abs. Nothing like a good workout to wake you up and get you ready for the day. After I finish up at the gym, I make my way back home and make breakfast. I try to stick to something quick but healthy (smoothie, scrambled eggs, avocado toast) and a protein shake. After I eat, I get ready for work and pack my lunches and coffee for the day. Once I’m packed an ready I head out to catch my bus, which is just a short walk down the block. The bus ride lasts about 20 minutes and before I know it I’m at my office. That’s where the real work starts! I won’t bore you with the details of the standard 8 hour work day, other than I do impossible things that no one knew existed! After my day in the office is over, the race to get to the gym starts and I head over to catch my bus back home. Once I make it home, I pack my things for the gym and head out again. My workouts typically last an hour, followed up with a trip to the grocery store for some fresh produce on the way home. Once I get home (usually around 7:30) I clean up from the gym, make dinner and then relax for whats left of my night before heading to bed.
How did you get into fitness?
I got into fitness during my freshman year of college. I had always been the skinny guy through out high school and I wanted to change that. The biggest push for me was moving to a new city for college. I didn’t know anyone, I had to find a job to support myself, and deal with the pressure of going through college. I channeled everything into the gym. It taught me self discipline and how to create and achieve personal goals. Then, I started to notice a change in my body! I started to see the results I had been striving for. At first it was something simple as reaching a certain amount of reps, or being able to lift a certain amount of weight. Then I started seeing the physical change it was doing to my body and I was hooked.
What does your typical skincare routine look like?
My typical skin care routine looks something like this- My skin type is oily, so I typically shower twice a day (morning/evening) With my shower routine I try to do a full body exfoliation every other day or at least 3 times a week. In the shower I typically use a charcoal forming cleanser that helps control shine and blackheads. After I get out of the shower and dry off the first thing I do is apply my face lotion. Since I have oily skin (which tends to make my face a little shiny) I use Neutrogena Sensitive Face lotion. Its water based & non-comdengenic which helps to keep my face from feeling greasy or looking shiny after applying all while making sure its got all the moisture it needs.
At the end of the day once I’m home relaxing for the evening, twice a week I apply a face mask. I use a Mint clay mask to help dry out any blemishes, and a Avocado clay mask to help with skin tone/appearance. Again making sure to moisturize after removing the mask. On the nights I don’t use a mask, I use a toner with cotton pads to not only clean my face but to help shrink the appearance of pores. Again making sure to moisturize since the toner can leave your skin a little dry.
What keeps you motivated?
I like to picture what my future may look like. Then when ever I feel myself struggling, I remind myself of where I’ve come from, what I’ve already accomplished, and how much closer I am to that future.
What's your favourite skincare product?
That’s a great one! I would say I love Masks. They come in all different colors, textures, treat different aspects, and are overall pretty comical (as you might see from my Instagram). Its easy to have fun with them, as well as providing healthy benefits to your skin.
In your opinion, what's a must-have in every man's bag each day?
A must have I would say is a good face/body lotion I would follow that up with a good facial/body wash/cleanser, and sunscreen. That way you have all of your bases covered!
What are your hobbies outside of work?
My hobbies outside of work include, body building/fitness, biking, kayaking, hiking, traveling, and tinkering with technology.
